Shy-Anne Hovorka
I will be one of the first to say that people from Northwestern Ontario are great people and have talent far bigger than one would imagine, coming from a small mining town off the beaten path. Shy-Anne Hovorka is no exception as she was just nominated for the upcoming 2008 Aboriginal Music Awards for best new artist, best songwriter, and single of the year! [more…]

Paul Price and John Moore
I had the lovely privilege of attending one of the most amazing acoustic shows that I have ever seen. It was an intimate gathering of friends, family, fans, and of course, there was great music. Paul Price and John Moore are 2 talented singer/songwriters who are preparing to head out on a co-headlining acoustic tour. In preparation for the tour, the pair hosted a soiree at John’s Loft. Parker - BombshellParker - Bombshell
Picture this: a Toronto-based band with innovative lyrics, a ridiculous variety of styles (ranging from electronic to folk to alternative), and a vocalist reminiscent of Bono. Meet Parker. On their album Bombshell, they display all of the latter qualities. Listen to the first twenty seconds of their opening track, “Twenty Twenty” and you could easily mistake it for a U2 song. [more…]

Ryan Neilson - Four WallsRyan Neilson - Four Walls
Nova Scotia native Ryan Neilson could fall into the same “boy with guitar” category as Jack Johnson, John Mayer and Jason Mraz. On his debut album, Four Walls, Neilson manages to deliver acoustic songs with the odd bluesy solo. However, he lacks something that the preceding artists achieve – originality. Neilson tends to limit himself to one genre, acoustic-pop, thus the majority of his songs end up sounding similar.[more…]
